Liminal Space SF presents Public Redaction, an immersive staging of collaborative works by Los Angeles based artists Emji Saint Spero + Jeremy Kennedy.
Created in the aftermath of a critical diagnosis, Public Redaction: Select Works from Deselected Collections presents an immersive staging of could-have-will-have-beens from the artists’ Endlessly Yours and Business as Bruisual series, ranging from paint-starved works on paper, to sharply creased sonic and sculptural dimensions.
A soft shoulder of implied intimacies and pre-medicated repulsions comprised of quotidian objects, entangled interpersonal ephemera, bureaucratic traces, wry multi-vocal interventions, and fringe-lit sculptural nuances. An acute awareness of temporal uncertainty permeates the work, and is given weight through textual and spatial accumulation, densely stacked, unwieldy, and occasionally floor-bound in form.
The artists compose an elastic present in which precarity and collapse are at once inevitable and an act of resistance to stasis, in which agency is de-and-re-constructed, then offered up in grand banal gestures as an invitation towards complicity, as cute captioning for collective witness.
